FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: I'm thinking about checking out a Weekend Worship Service.  What can I expect it to be like? What do you do?
A: We try to keep our services unpredicatable and exciting, but there are several elements you are sure to experience. When you walk in you should be welcomed by a student who will hand you a bulletin (a brochure with upcoming events).  We try to add an element of fun and get everyone acquanted (it's no fun if you don't know anyone!).  We'll play a few "safe" but hillarious games, and then everyone will gather in our main auditorium.  Our band will play some songs, and words will be projected on a giant screen if you don't know the songs.  Pastor Chris will then come and speak for a few minutes about something from the Bible that is understandable, and will enrich your life (with the help of videos clips or other awesome illustrations).  After service we give everyone the option of either going out to a fast-food place or staying at the church for snacks and some b-ball or playstations.

Q: FAQ from parents: How can you help me get my son/daughter connected when there's so many students?
A: If you need help getting your son or daughter connected to our ministry... PLEASE allow us to help. We promise that we'll do three things:

(1) We'll have one of our leaders call and/or write your student to personally invite him/her to one of our events.

(2) We'll have one of our student leaders do the same as #1.

(3) We'll share whatever information we can that might help you help your student get involved. For example; your son might say, "I don't know anyone who goes there." That's a fair concern, but chances are high that from the many students who are involved in our youth ministry, they will know someone. We'll give you names, offer options, and be waiting for them to arrive at a program so they'll have someone to sit with.

Please allow us to help. Either call us or e-mail us at

Q: FAQ from potential volunteers: Does the student ministry need help? If so, how can I help out?
A: Yes, we need help! There are many students in our church who may not have a close adult leader, because of the ratio between adults and students. If you are interested in serving in one of the most exciting ministries in our church, you'd be part of a great team of men and women volunteers who range in age from 21 to 81.

We currently have 10-15 adults who work with our students that call Waymaker home and we need more adult leaders!

There is no stereotype of a good youth worker that you must fit:
-You don't need to be perfect
-You don't need to be a Bible teacher
-You don't need to be cool
-You don't need to be young
-You don't need to listen to rap music

Here's what you need:
-A pulse
-A caring heart
-A likeable personality
-A love for God
-An interest in teenagers

Q: FAQ from student: If God gave us the Bible so that we could understand him better, then why are some parts of it VERY confusing? Why didn't he make everything clear?
A: We must admit that there are parts of the Bible that are confusing.

The Bible is confusing because God wrote it, but he used human authors. They used a different language and had different historical and cultural contexts.

There are parts of the Bible that are difficult to understand, but an objective interpretation is possible. It is important to realize that the essential messages of the Bible are clear, and without dispute. It might be a good idea to look for a translation that is written in a modern context (the way you speak).  Some examples are: the Message Bible, The CEV, or the NIV.

Q: FAQ from student: If you had two minutes to convince a person of a different belief about Jesus being our Lord and Savior what would you say?
A: Some really resist in believing that Jesus is God's Son. Try explaining the fact that Jesus did miracles that only God could do and that He was proclaimed to be God by the prophets and His own followers and that He proved who He was by His resurrection.
